you know what’s really not fun? having hyperfixation after hyperfixation that’s considered “useless”. 

like. my sister has pretty severe adhd and while she gets hell for most of the other aspects of it, most people are okay w her hyperfixating bc her hyperfixations are useful. currently, she’s going through a bass hyperfixation. she’s spending tons of time trying to learn how to build and play her own bass guitar. it’s the one thing she really spends her free time on, and it even eats up some not-so-free time. but my parents don’t care. my dad will hold conversations abt materials and designs and the like whenever my sister brings it up.  they think it’s cool she’s putting so much effort into something. 

meanwhile, my hyperfixations tend to be fandoms. my parents (and sister) get annoyed that i spend all my time thinking abt, talking abt, and/or creating content for a tv show, movie, book, etc. they never encourage me to go on abt whatever i happen to be interested at the time. my mom and dad both say they wish i’d put my effort into something productive instead of wasting my time on the internet, as if my sister isn’t online as much as i am. i feel compelled to lie abt what i’m doing all the time. i don’t share my art or hcs or anything with my parents bc they don’t show any interest. since they don’t show any interest, i feel the need to spend as much time as possible online bc there are people on the internet who are willing to listen to me. my parents end up getting mad - they think the amount of hours i can spend in front of a computer is unhealthy. and it is. but i wouldn’t be on social media so often if i could get the same validation irl. if my hyperfixations were useful, i could probably get that validation. but they aren’t, and it sucks.
